General RV Center is the Nation’s Largest Family owned RV Dealer. We are large enough to cater to your every need, yet we are small enough to care about you on a personal level. We like to live by the motto that “Our Customers are our Family.” With that being said, this is after all a product review, so let’s dive right in!
Today we are going to review the 2013 Coachmen Freedom Express 291QBS Travel Trailer. This RV is a bunkhouse unit that caters to family camping. Coachmen RV has helped families create memories since 1964, and they have been a longstanding partner with General RV Center. This Freedom Express model makes it easy to escape from your busy life, as it is completely packed with industry leading features, and conveniences. Aspects such as; a power tongue jack (which makes getting ready to travel a breeze), dual twenty pound LP tanks, and a diamond plate lower panel for protection from road debris make this RV truly special. Towing the Freedom Express 291QBS is also safe and simple with the aerodynamic exterior and Coachmen’s exclusive STABLE-RYD spread axle design.
Moving over to the “patio side” of the camper, it’s easy to see that there is plenty of room for all of your camping gear and supplies. The spacious pass through cabinet provides room for the entire family to store multiple items. The front storage is accessible from both sides, which means there’s no reason to leave lengthy items like fishing rods, or golf clubs behind. There is also an eighteen foot power awning that covers the patio area of the RV…and by “power,” we don’t mean “crank it yourself.” We are talking about retraction and extension with simply the push of a button.
As we all know camping is all about spending time in the “Great Outdoors.” Coachmen understood that the outdoor space had to be be a focal point when creating this Travel Trailer, and it shows in the outdoor kitchen on the exterior of the coach. That’s right… this RV has a refrigerator, sink, and a slide-out Coleman 2 burner grill, all on the exterior of the unit! There is even an outdoor shower as well to wash those “sandy little feet” off before they come in to the luxury interior! Additionally, Coachmen has taken care of mother nature herself when building this model. It is GOLD level rated and Certified Green. The 291QBS features aluminum sidewalls with a smooth fiberglass exterior. It is also constructed with “AZDEL Superlite Composite” in place of wood (which many RV manufacturers still use). AZDEL is 50% lighter than wood, is odorless, impact resistant, and impervious to water, mold, and mildew. This means delaminaton has been virtually eliminated!
This RV also features a “slide-out” to add extra space to the interior when parked. The slide is controlled by one of the most reliable rack and pinion systems available today (The HappiJac Sure-Track). The underbelly of the RV is also fully enclosed and heated with tough 4-inch heat ducts. These provide more than enough warmth and comfort on those cold evenings.
As we move to the inside of the RV, we are greeted by true luxury. The first thing that grabs your attention is the entertainment center, which offers a swivel LCD TV. Because of its swivel technology the TV can be viewed from either the living area, or the bedroom. This eliminates the extra cost associated with installing additional televisions in the unit. This RV also comes equipped with AM/FM/CD/DVD capabilities. Controls let you listen to speakers both inside, and outside of the travel trailer. This is perfect for creating just the right mood for those patio gatherings with other campers.
You will be sure to enjoy the interior living space with a sofa that jack-knifes into a bed and a booth dinette to gather the family for meals. When speaking of meals, the outdoor kitchen is not alone on this RV, The interior also features a complete kitchen with a deep bowl sink (just like at home), a 3 burner gas range with exhaust hood, and an overhead microwave; as well as a 6 cubic foot refrigerator and freezer. There is even room in the fridge for a full gallon of milk (which doesn’t usually happen in your standard travel trailer fridge). There are storage cabinets throughout the kitchen, as well as above the booth dinette and the sofa, and the kitchen/living area even features enough room to add a couple of bar stools for additional seating.
As we move to the master bedroom, we find a queen bed, and wood sliding doors that provide privacy from the main living space, as opposed to the industry standard curtain. There is also additional storage above and beneath the bed which can fit additional clothes, blankets, small suitcases, or even towels. There are also wardrobe cabinets on each side of the bed for your hanging clothes.
In the bathroom, this Freedom Express features ample counter space, with a GFI protected power outlet, and a large open shelf space for the whole family’s toiletries. Above the vanity you will notice a large medicine cabinet as well for additional storage space. The bathroom space also provides a tub/shower combo with a shower curtain and skylight to provide natural and uplifting light in the bathroom space, while still keeping privacy at a premium. You will also find your standard RV toilet in the bathroom as well.
We have saved the best for last when going through this RV. The space for the kids is truly what sets it apart from other RV’s. The children are sure to enjoy their own separate room with three bunk-beds of their own, (an optional 4th may come as an option) which feature extra-plush mattresses. There is also plenty of shelf space in the bunk room for games, toys, or anything your heart desires. Additional storage closets in this space mean room for even more clothing or other additional gear. The “bunkhouse” features a TV hookup, and several A/C outlets (perfect for video games). This model also offers two additional windows in the rear of the coach which provides added ventilation and ample natural light. The emergency exit in this space is an added safety feature that will undeniably put the parents’ minds at ease. The kids have privacy, but are never too far away in case of emergency.
In our opinion, the choice is clear. The 2013 Coachmen Freedom Express 291QBS Travel Trailer has everything one needs to start blazing their own path and creating adventures that the whole family can enjoy.
