Amazing Waterfront RV Parks & Campgrounds in the Northeast
Connecticut – Hammonasset Beach State Park
You can swim in the salt water, collect shells, build a sandcastle, sunbathe, relax, and walk along the boardwalk that gazes upon Long Island Sound at Connecticut’s largest public beach park. Launch a carry-in boat, take a canoe trip, or fish from the stone breakwater. Summer activities include nature talks, bingo, movies, horseshoes, bocce and volleyball. The children’s play area offers a pirate ship, swings, and slides. The Meigs Point Nature Center offers programs and activities for park visitors during the summer season. Hammonasset campground has 552 sites for all types of RVs including small tear drop campers and larger Class C motorhomes. Delaware – Cape Henlopen State Park
Cape Henlopen State Park is situated at the mouth of the Delaware Bay and features more than 6 miles of coastline. Cape Henlopen’s beaches attract thousands of visitors who enjoy everything from ocean swimming, boating, fishing, and kayaking to clamming, paddle-boarding and wind-surfing. But Cape Henlopen offers more than just the ocean and bays. The park’s premiere trails offer hiking and biking exploration. Cape Henlopen’s campground is set among pine-covered dunes. Maine – Moorings Oceanfront RV Resort
Moorings Oceanfront RV Resort offers oceanfront RV camping along the scenic Penobscot Bay in coastal Maine. Its 44 sites boast grand views of the Bay and offer an abundance of on-site amenities plus activities for the whole family. Maryland – Pocomoke River State Park
Tucked away on Maryland’s lower eastern shore, Pocomoke River State Park is well known for cypress swamps that border the Pocomoke River. Massachusettes – Beach Rose RV Park
Beach Rose RV Park is located in Salisbury, Massachusetts, a small costal beach town and popular summer destination just minutes away from the Atlantic Ocean. This family-owned campground has 50 RV sites offering electrical, water, sewer, and cable hookups. Pets are also welcome! New Hampshire – Umbagog Lake State Park
Umbagog Lake Campground is located on the south end of Umbagog Lake. Pronounced Um-‘bay’-gog, the lake name is Abenaki for shallow water. The Abenaki were a Native American tribe that resided in the area. The campground has a camp store, flush and pit toilets, and coin-operated showers. There are 32 sites in the main campground and 35 remote campsites in isolated locations around the lake. There are plenty of outdoor activities here to enjoy including a beach area for swimming, excellent fishing, wildlife viewing, and boating. Canoe, kayak, and rowboat rentals are also available. Wildlife viewing includes a variety of birds, deer, and moose.
New Jersey – Beachcomber Camping Resort
Blue skies and ocean breezes will greet you at Beachcomber Camping Resort. This family-owned campground in Cape May, New Jersey, offers spacious sites and full service amenities. There are many activities to do thanks to the fresh, spring-fed lake. Adults will enjoy relaxing on the white sandy beach. New York – Lake George Escape Camping Resort

Pennsylvania – WaterSide Campground

Rhode Island – East Beach State Campground
One of the least developed of the Rhode Island state beaches, East Beach is a spectacular seaside location for swimming and saltwater fishing. Adventurous RVers will love Rhode Island’s East Beach State Campground for a rustic camping experience on 3 miles of undeveloped beach frontage. There are no utilities and special camping/vehicle equipment requirements are required for camping at this location. All camping units must self-contained and equipped with 4-wheel drive. Trailers and fifth wheels are not allowed, making Class B motorhomes a perfect contender for camping here. This barrier beach and 20 site campground location offers four composting toilets for restrooms.
Vermont – Button Bay State Park
Button Bay, a 253-acre park, is named for the button-like concretions formed by clay deposits found along the shoreline. This Vermont state park campground overlooks Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains to the west. There are 53 campsites, restrooms with flush toilets, hot and cold running water, and coin-operated hot showers. Families with children will enjoy swimming in the park pool and visiting the nature center. Additionally, there kayaking/canoe and boat launches.

Illinois – Shabbona Lake State Park
Shabbona Lake State Park is located just miles west of Chicago, off U.S. 30, and features 1,550 acres of natural heaven. With facilities for picnicking, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, and winter sports, Shabbona Lake is a convenient and comfortable retreat where you can refresh and reinvigorate yourself in a rare, unspoiled environment. RVers can camp at the Shabbona Lake State Recreation Area that offers 150 premium campsites with electricity, picnic table, fire rings and vehicle access.
Indiana – Indiana Dunes State Park
Indiana Dunes consists of 2,182 acres of primitive, beautiful, historic and unique Hoosier landscape and includes more than three miles of beautiful beach along Lake Michigan’s southern shore. The park’s main feature is the large sand dunes that tower nearly 200 feet above Lake Michigan. Visitors can hike the dunes, swim on the beach, bird watch or stop by the nature center. The park also has miles of hiking trails and cross-country skiing trails, too. There are 150 electric campsites available.
Iowa – Dolliver Memorial State Park
Dolliver Memorial State Park in northwest Iowa is unique for its natural bluffs and geological formations. Dolliver overlooks the Des Moines River Valley and spreads across 594 acres of flatlands and more than 5 miles of rugged trails. Highlights of the park include Boneyard Hollow, the Copperas Beds and historic Native American mounds. The Dolliver Campground overlooks the Des Moines River and contains electric sites, a modern restroom and shower building, and dump station.
Kansas – Canning Creek Cove Park
Canning Creek Cove Park is located on Council Grove Lake in the green expanses of eastern Kansas. Visitors can enjoy boating, swimming, fishing, hiking, and hunting around Council Grove Lake. Canning Creek campground offers electric campsites, clean restrooms with flush toilets, and other modern amenities are provided. Reviewers add that this campground is very well maintained and the sites are very level making it a great spot for first-time RVers.
Michigan – Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore
Wild beauty and rustic campgrounds beckon you to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. This national park, located on the south shore of Lake Superior in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, features sandstone cliffs, beaches, sand dunes, waterfalls, inland lakes, and deep forest. RVers can boondock at one of three rustic campgrounds at Pictured Rocks. These sites do not have hookups and water is shut off during colder months so make sure you’re prepared for this Michigan adventure.
Minnesota – Grand Marais Recreation Area
Minnesota’s arrowhead region is famous for spectacular Lake Superior scenery, pristine Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, rugged Sawtooth Mountain range, Superior National Forest and numerous Minnesota State Parks. And Grand Marais campground is the ideal base camp for your northern Minnesota outdoor adventures. There are 300 campsites available, including full hookup RV sites. Missouri – Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park
Shut-ins are rock formations that carve through a mountain range, causing a complex of pools, rivulets, rapids and plunge pools. They are found in streams in the Ozarks. The wilderness qualities and geology of Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park and the surrounding St. Francois Mountains make this park a special place to visit. Its rugged character provides the perfect backdrop for camping, hiking, picnicking, splashing in the shut-ins, exploring nature or just relaxing. The campground at Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park is open year round and offers several options including basic, full hookup, and equestrian campsites.
Nebraska – Eugene T. Mahoney State Park
Located midway between Nebraska’s two largest cities, Lincoln and Omaha, Eugene T. Mahoney State Park is a favorite destination for a family escape. Families can visit the aquatic center and indoor playground, explore the park’s hiking and biking trails, venture through the treetop ropes course, climb the observation tower and, when the weather turns cold, enjoy indoor rock climbing, sledding and ice skating. There are 148 campsites offering electric or full hookups as well as drinking water, showers and modern restrooms. A dump and fill station is also onsite.
North Dakota – Lewis and Clark State Park
Miles of shoreline, towering buttes, and rolling hills provide a rugged backdrop for campers at Lewis and Clark State Park. This state park is situated on one of the upper bays of Lake Sakakawea and features 101 campsites. The boating facilities, including a marina with slip rentals and boat ramps, are a major draw for visitors. Anglers will find excellent fishing for walleye, sauger and northern pike. There is also a self-guided nature trail, swimming area, and beach. The majority of campsites here offer water and electricity but there are 8 primitive sites for boondockers, too.
Ohio – Lighthouse Point Resort & Campground
Does your family love roller coasters? Then book your stay at Lighthouse Point Resort! You’ll be able to enjoy the all thrills and then relax in your RV because this campground is located right next door to Cedar Point amusement park. The campground is open from May through October and has 145 full hookup sites to accommodate RVs of all sizes. All accommodations include outdoor seating and a charcoal grill. Guests also enjoy property-wide Wi-Fi and a convenience store as well as laundry facilities, planned activities, and an outdoor pool.
South Dakota – Stockade Lake North Campground
Bring your family to Custer State Park and let yourself run wild! Encompassing 71,000 acres in the Black Hills, this state park is home to abundant wildlife and adventure. Whether you prefer hiking or biking, swimming or fishing, there’s something here for everyone. There are numerous campgrounds in this area. We recommend Stockade Lake North Campground for its proximity to the water. Sites here can accommodate all types of RVs and have electric hookups. Wisconsin – Merry Mac’s Campground
You’ll find family-friendly fun at Merry Mac’s Campground in Merrimac, Wisconsin, and there are plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy. Go for a swim in the pool or pond. Play spaceball or a round of miniature golf. Take a fishing excursion on Lake Wisconsin or hike on the Devil’s Lake Bluff. Everything is within minutes of this popular campground. Arkansas – Downtown Riverside RV Park
Located in downtown North Little Rock, Downtown Riverside RV Park is known as one of America’s most unusual RV park locations and features 61 campsites. Amenities include hookups, WiFi, clubhouse with laundry facilities, and restrooms. Campers are within walking distance of many things to do. Whether you are an avid cyclist or just enjoy a leisurely nature walk, the Arkansas River Trail provides 15 miles of trail with breathtaking views of the Arkansas River. North Carolina – Camp Hatteras RV Resort and Campground

South Carolina – Lakewood Camping Resort
With nearly 1,300 sites and 300 acres of family fun, Lakewood Camping Resort has it all including oceanfront and lakefront sites for RVers. All sites have full hookups (water, sewer, electrical), WiFi, cable, picnic table, and daily trash removal service. Families will love this campground’s water park with its Olympic-sized pool, giant slides, lazy river, sun tanning deck, and kid’s water park. Tennessee – Reelfoot Lake State Park
Reelfoot Lake State Park is located in the northwest corner of Tennessee and is noted for its fishing, boating, and wildlife viewing. The 15,000-acre lake was created by a series of violent earthquakes in 1811-1812 that caused the Mississippi River to flow backwards for a short period of time, flooding the surrounding forest. One of the best ways to experience Reelfoot Lake is by boat. Reelfoot Lake which is ideal for canoes, kayaks and jon boats when the winds are calm. There are also several easy hiking trails for the whole family. The two campgrounds at Reelfoot Lake have RV sites with hookups and multiple bathhouses for added comfort.
Texas – Galveston Island State Park
Come to the island to stroll the beach or splash in the waves. Or come to the island to fish or look for coastal birds. No matter what brings you here, you’ll find a refuge at Galveston Island State Park. With both beach and bay sides, Galveston Island State Park offers activities for every coast lover. Virginia – First Landing State Park
Located on Cape Henry in North Virginia Beach, First Landing State Park offers a wide range of activities for visitors. You can go swimming at the Chesapeake Bay Beach or hiking and biking along 19 miles of trails. Visitors also enjoy boating and saltwater fishing at this state park. The 200-site campground has multiple options for campers including sites with electric and water hookups. Each site has a picnic table and fire-grill. Local attractions include Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center, Virginia Beach boardwalk, Norfolk Naval Base, Cape Henry Lighthouse and First Landing Cross in adjacent Fort Story.
West Virginia – Mountain Lake Campground
Mountain Lake Campground is situated on the shores of the beautiful Summersville Lake. There are four camping areas to choose from depending on how and where you want to camp. Colorado – Yampa River State Park
Yampa River State Park is actually three “parks” in one. The headquarters campground has 35 electric RV sites. Potable water hydrants and a dump station are located at the entrance to the campground. This campground offers great opportunities for RVers with toy haulers who can enjoy outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, and OHV riding. A 134-mile stretch of the Yampa River is the heart of this state park. It has 13 access points for fishing and boating from Hayden to the Dinosaur National Monument near the Utah border. The Elkhead Reservoir is the third major component of the Yampa River State Park system. Visitors can enjoy swimming, boating, and fishing at the lake.
Hawaii – Waianapanapa State Park
Yes, even Hawaii welcomes RVers, or at least van campers. Wai’ānapanapa means glistening waters, and this state park offers access to remote, wild, volcanic coastline on the island of Maui. Visitors here enjoy the solitude and respite from urban life while camping, picnicking, shore fishing and hiking along an ancient Hawaiian coastal trail which leads to Hana. There are many features to see as well, including native hala forest, heiau (religious temple), sea stacks, blow holes and small black sand beach. Idaho – Island View Resort
Located on beautiful Lake Pend Oreille, Island View Resort offers 61 grassy RV sites with utilities. Campground conveniences include a store, marina, and laundry facilities. There’s plenty to do at this Idaho RV park like swimming, fishing, horseshoes, and more. There are also nearby golf courses, ATV riding, kayaking/canoeing, watersports, biking, and hiking. Montana – Whitefish Lake State Park
Bring the family to camp and play on the beach at Whitefish Lake State Park. Located on the outskirts of Whitefish, this small park provides a mature forest and a pleasant campground and beach. Children love the trains that rumble along the park’s edge. Campground conveniences include a bathhouse, restrooms, vault toilets, and an onsite store with firewood and ice. The majority of the sites here do not have hookups so come prepared for boondocking.
Nevada – Zephyr Cove Resort Lake Tahoe

Oregon – Jessie M. Honeyman Memorial State Park
This coastal state park is tucked in the dunes three miles south of Florence and two miles from the ocean. In addition to campgrounds, this park features two sparkling freshwater lakes. Cleawox Lake is a small lake flanked by dunes on the south side and forest on the north; the clear water invites fishing and non-motorized boating and paddling. Large, open Woahink Lake is perfect for boating, picnicking and swimming along the sandy beach. There are over 300 campsites at Jessie M. Honeyman Memorial State Park, including 47 full-hookup RV sites and more than 120 electrical sites with water. Visitors have access to flush toilets, hot showers, a dump station, and firewood for sale.
Utah – Zion River Resort RV Park & Campground
Zion River Resort is nestled beside Utah’s tranquil Virgin River and surrounded by a vista of vibrant colored mountains. This RV park is ideally located for easy access to several of the nation’s most breathtaking national parks including: Bryce Canyon National Park, Zion National Park, Grand Canyon North Rim, and Cedar Breaks National Monument. Campers can enjoy numerous activities in the area – river rafting, bicycling, horseback riding, ATVing and hiking – and then return to the RV resort to unwind. The Icicle River runs right through the park providing river’s edge access and wildlife viewing. Local attractions include wineries, orchards, lakes and streams, hiking trails, natural climbing walls, the Bavarian village of Leavenworth and an 18-hole golf course. There are more than 75 RV sites here plus a beach area, horseshoes, cable TV, a hot tub, bathrooms, showers and laundry facilities.
Wyoming – Bridge Bay Campground
Bridge Bay Campground was named for its proximity to Bridge Bay Marina on Yellowstone Lake. This rustic Wyoming campground is popular with fishing and boating enthusiasts. The campground offers open sites with few trees or shadier options in the wooded upper loops of the campground. Early in the season, several loops are closed to reservations due to potential bear activity. RVs up to 40 feet long may be accommodated in pull-through and back-in sites, perfect for travel trailers or small to mid-size fifth wheels. The sites may not be level, so campers should plan accordingly. There are no utility hookups but an RV dump station is available outside the campground entrance near the Bridge Bay Marina.
